Back in the Long Grass

 

The wait for root and branch reforms to our social care system goes on. Many Governments have been criticised for not making changes that will make our care system simple and fairer.

 

All the more disappointing then to see the new Labour Government announce that they are going to overturn the changes that were due to start in October next year, after years of delay.

 

The reforms were far from ideal and certainly didn’t solve all problems, but they did introduce a cap on the amount a person had to pay for their care and raised the current support threshold from £23,250 to £100,000.

 

Now, change and review are back in the long grass and we must wait to see if this is a priority area for Government. Based on the comments so far it would seem not and so more and more people will be required to fund their own care for years to come.
